Aksan Support

Aksan shows you one Armenian letter or phrase at a time, all day, on your watch face and home screen. If something is not working, or a recording sounds wrong, please write to help+aksan@partof.team and tell us what you were looking at. It helps enormously if you say which device you were using.

The app is not the main part

• Aksan is meant to be glanced at rather than opened. The widget and the watch complication are where the learning happens; the app is where you go to browse, search, and hear something in full.
• If you have installed it and not added a widget, you have not really started yet.

Adding the widget

• iPhone and iPad. Touch and hold the home screen, tap Edit then Add Widget, and search for Aksan. There are two: Letter shows one letter of the alphabet, Word shows a phrase with how to say it.
• Apple Watch. Touch and hold the watch face, tap Edit, swipe to the complications, and choose Aksan. The round complication shows a letter with a ring counting down its turn; the rectangular one shows a phrase.
• Mac. Widgets can be added to the desktop or Notification Centre in the same way as on iPhone.

How often does it change?

• Every eight hours by default — three a day. You can set one, two, four, eight or twelve hours.
• On iPhone, iPad and Mac this belongs to each widget: touch and hold the widget, choose Edit Widget, and pick a cadence. Two widgets can run at different rates.
• On Apple Watch it is in the app's own Settings, because the watch app shows the same sequence as the face and the two should agree.
• The order is the same on every device you own without anything being synced, because it is worked out from the date rather than exchanged.

Making it show what you want

• Next on the widget moves to the next item straight away. It does not move the next scheduled change.
• Show on the widget — the star — pins a letter or phrase until midnight, after which the sequence takes over again. Letters and phrases are pinned separately.
• Show on the Lock Screen, on a phrase screen on iPhone, puts that phrase on the Lock Screen for one to four hours.

Sound

• Tap Listen anywhere it appears, including on the widget itself, and the recording plays without opening the app.
• Every letter and every phrase in the pack has a recording. Nothing is downloaded — they are all installed with the app.
• The pronunciation audio is synthesized, not recorded by a native speaker. The letter names have been checked by one.
• If a clip will not play, the app says so rather than failing silently. Please tell us which one.

Reading it in Russian

• Open Settings in the app and change the source language. Meanings and pronunciation guides are written for whichever you choose.
• Nothing you have already learned is lost by switching — it changes how things are explained, not what you have seen.
• The Russian pronunciation guide marks the aspirated letters (Ք Փ Թ) with an apostrophe, because Russian has no such sound and it is the one thing worth building from scratch.

Your data

• Everything stays on your device. No account, no sign-in, nothing uploaded, and the app never goes online. See the Privacy Policy for the detail.
• Deleting the app removes everything it stored.
